Who I am and What I do
I am extremely passionate about all things web related. I strive to increase my technological expertise and keep up-to-date with web development best practices.
My focus is managing web environments by implementing proper Web Operations principals such as Strategy, Governance, Execution and Measurement. My web development background and strong communications and analysis skills are an asset to any successful Web project.
Some Highlights
I was part of a $2,000,000 Business Transformation project as CMS Lead. My role was to implement a new CMS, migration, change management and empower business users to own content (buy-in). Leading the project and daily operational tasks, my challenge was managing my schedule effectively. As part of my role, I managed to reduce operational noise by creating a web content owners guide for the business users and provide training and support for the current CMS (resulting from root cause analysis). I took the role from editing HTML to leading projects effectively by increasing business user buy-in and from 4 to 18 strong active users owning content and making their own content edits by using a simple editorial workflow. I credit my strong communication & organizational skills and patience to the success of my role’s evolution and enhancing the web environment for the organization by focusing on business objectives rather than fire-fighting.
I built the documentation to help the organization make better decisions with technology, project methodology, and user acceptance (Current State Analysis, Business Case, Project Charter, Change Management Plan, Communication Plan and Project Plan). I’m currently working on the project and was the driving force behind the CMS selection and project methodology. I’m also a chair on the CMS Committee and working on implementing a Web Operations strategy once the project goes from transitional to operational.
I reduced operating costs and increased content update consistency by developing a plan to merge 6 micro-sites into one larger website. Previously the organization paid an agency to manage and construct micro-sites – the delay to update pertinent information on the websites was not reasonable. My project’s success was based on empowering the business users to own their own content. The business user’s acceptance was through the roof with an average of 100 content updates monthly and more users eager to learn the system and join the content editing force.
I replaced a stand-alone micro-site which forced users to manage an additional login/password. This micro-site is a helpful tool for students to gather information and wasn’t known for being user-centric. I managed the overhaul of this micro-site and the result benefited both the students and business users. We saw the student satisfaction rate go from 3% to over 80% according to surveys.
After a website rebuild, using some usability theories, I’ve increased the conversion rate from 0.01% to 3% within only a short month. I developed strategies such as “Adaptive Content” where the home page is modified as per the users past browsing patterns.
I’ve improved email click through by designing a more engaging email template. According to the A+B tests I did, the improvement was substantial at over 1400%. I’ve always been fascinated with human/computer interaction and how we react to certain design elements.
I built a custom content management system for a small design firm. It allows the developer to easily edit pages without all the bells and whistles and complexities of larger CMS systems. It dramatically reduced production times for small business websites allowing graphic designers to become web developers. This was before systems like Wordpress and PHP was in its infancy.
I built a client management portal with an invoice system for a design agency. Featuring a bar-code system for designers to scan dockets and have on display all the client and project information that’s required. I also help to increase the agencies revenue by taking the business from photography to design and web development.
I built the PHP/MySQL backend for one of Canada’s largest printing directory. It featured geo-location, a client area to add and edit entries and an administration system allowing moderators to monitor entries and overall growth.
